The That-a-Weigh KidsŪ Weight Management Program for overweight children and teens was researched and developed by Dr. Wendy V. Sapolsky, a Board certified practicing pediatrician since 1995.

She grew up making choices between candy, fruit, cookies and all the other goodies children are confronted with on a daily basis. Dr. Sapolsky credits her parents with helping her maintain a healthy weight throughout her childhood and teen years.

Dr. Sapolsky soon developed a professional and personal interest in studying childhood obesity, and in the healthiest ways for kids and teens to lose weight. In 1998 she began doing research and in 1999 gave her first lecture on pediatric nutrition. She always believed that childhood eating is a family affair, as it was in her home growing up.

With the ever increasing number of overweight children she was seeing in her practice, Dr. Sapolsky grew frustrated because there was no place to send them for help. She decided to do something about that. Once again it became a family affair.

In December 2003, Dr. Sapolsky, her mother and sister joined forces to start That-a-Weigh Kids® with the goal of helping overweight children and their families learn to eat right to manage their weight, exercise, and stay healthy. Doctors, including Dr. Saplosky, would now have a place to refer their overweight patients. It took two years for Dr. Sapolsky, working with a registered dietician, to develop the That-a-Weigh Kids® unique food plan.

That-a-Weigh Kids® opened in January 2005 and a new partner joined that May. The results are in. Children aged 5 - 18 who joined the program have learned how to eat healthy, have renewed self esteem and have lost up to 70 pounds. The program works - and most importantly has shown it can dramatically change young lives (see testimonials).

Currently, That-a-Weigh Kids® offers classes in multiple locations in Jacksonville, Florida.
