Program Choices / Descriptions of Components of Plan
That-a-Weigh Kids® offers four program options depending on
the approach you wish to follow as you are helping your child learn how to
manage his/her weight and establish a healthy lifestyle. Our basic color-coded
food plan is included in each plan option.
Below is a description of the basic components of the
That-a-Weigh Kids® weight management program. After you go over the list,
click on the button at the bottom of this page to see the details of each plan
option. Choose the plan that best meets the needs of you and your family!
Remember, we at That-a-Weigh Kids® will be as involved with you and your child
as you want us to be.
Kids Start™: is a color-coded food guide pyramid
developed for the That-a-Weigh Kids® food plan.
Kids Facts™: is a personalized weight management
plan for your child based on your child’s age, sex, weight, height and current
activity level. Kids Facts™ will tell you your child’s target weight
ranges and the daily servings for each food group that your child should eat
each day. You will receive this form once you have registered your child for
our program.
Colored Stickers: These stickers correspond to our
color codes for the basic food groups. These stickers are to be used to label
food in your refrigerator and pantry. We also recommend using these stickers
on all prepackaged snacks in the house.
Kids Count™: This is a form to track all of your
child’s food servings and exercise activities each week.
Weekly Weigh-ins:: We would like to keep up with your
child's weight reduction progress and provide ongoing motivation and encouragement.
So all our plans provide an interactive format for you to help us maintain current
information on that progress via a weekly weight and height check. When you enter
that information, we show you all the measurements to date and a helpful message.
Food Conversions: One of the key elements of the
That-a-Weigh Kids® program is careful attention to food portion size and number
of servings. To help you manage that, if you supply us with a
nutrition label from any food product, we will convert that product into
portion size and number of servings to be used in conjunction with our food
plan - and email that information back to you.
Parents Forum: Through on-line access, the Parents'
Forum provides an opportunity to connect and communicate with other families
facing similar challenges. You can post messages, questions or suggestions and/or
reply to posts. Where appropriate, That-a-Weigh Kids® professionals will join
the discussions (identified as 'threads').
E-mail Questions: Based on the plan that you choose,
you will be allotted a certain number of questions to be sent via e-mail to a
That-a-Weigh Kids® professional, who will respond to your question by the next
business day. This will further personalize your child’s weight management
program by providing you with specific information you need to help your child
be successful in reaching his or her goals.
Phone Consultations: Based on the plan that you
choose, you will have the opportunity to set up scheduled phone consultations
with a That-a-Weigh Kids® professional or a certified dietician. Our
professional staff will assist you with our program and offer individual
guidance. Our nutritionist is a specialist in all areas of pediatric nutrition
and healthy eating. This is a very unique opportunity to be offered this type
of interaction outside of a clinical environment.
Reward System: As children meet their goals in our
weight management program, That-a-Weigh Kids® recommends rewarding them. When
you sign up for the Silver or Gold plan, you will receive That-a-Weigh Kids®
gold reward stars. These can be given based on the following weight loss: one
pound for ages 5 – 9, two pounds for ages 10 – 14, and three pounds for ages 15
– 18. Additional reward items offered by That-a-Weigh Kids® are: our logo
Frisbee to be given when your child hits 95% BMI; our logo football for when an
85% BMI is achieved. When your child hits his or her final goal, we have
our wonderful goal t-shirts.
Fit-Ability Tape: This is an exercise video created
by Sheryl Zang PhD. which contains 7 varied 20-minute fun workouts for
kids of all ages.
Kids Control™: This is the individualized form you
will receive when your child has reached his or her goal weight and you have
purchased the maintenance plan. This form will tell you maintenance weight
ranges as well as recommended daily food servings from each of the food
groups. This form may need to be updated as your child grows in height.
